What are five things on my to-do list today?
1. Get up at 5:30 a.m. to go to work.
2. Go to work.
3. Finish Alfred Kropp: The Thirteenth Skull (which I am not that thrilled to be reading) so that I can read my more exciting new books I just got at the library last night. (I could put the same thing as Kayla's was for #4 here, but I don't know if it would be for the same reason/s. Mine is boredom.)
4. Eat something at least a little more healthy than last night's dinner (which was French toast because I haven't been shopping and we did actually have all the ingredients for it).
5. Listen to good music at some point in the day.
Snacks I enjoy:
I don't eat them that often, but I like wheat crackers, fruit, and Triscuits.
Places I've lived:
Three different houses on the East Coast of the US, and none of them exciting.
Things I would do if I were a billionaire:
Pay other people to fix this house up really nice, buy BOOKS, an iPod, and music. Donate money to my Sea Scout Ship (instead of troops the units are called "ships") and charities.

Author Meme
I have been tagged with another meme! And by three people (Dominique, Jordyn, and Nicole B.), too. I must be getting more popular or something. Tyto Alba was also tagged (by Nicole and Jordyn), but declined filling in the meme. For which I'm kind of glad, because while our tastes are similar, they wouldn't be so alike that common favorite authors would be easy to figure out like Nicole challenged us to. Anyway...

Who’s you all-time favorite author and why?
That's a really hard question; I read so many different genres and have so many different favorites in all of them that I doubt I could ever choose. So I'll just name some: Alex Flinn, Tamora Pierce, L.M. Elliot, Laurence Yep, Celia Rees.
Who was your first favorite author and why? Do you still consider him/her among your favorites?
I honestly do not remember. I'm not sure exactly when I began reading, but somewhere around the age of 4 comes to mind. So maybe it was Arnold Lobel (Frog and Toad series) or Helen Oxenbury (Tom and Pippo books). And no, neither of them are still included in my favorites. I can safely say I completely outgrew them, although if I have children in the future I will definitely introduce them.
Who’s the most recent addition to your list of favorite authors, and why?
It just might be Beth Kephart. I very recently read her books Undercover and House of Dance and enjoyed them both so much. I love how she pauses, adds just another word or two, describes something ordinary so well that you can picture it perfectly in your mind.
If someone asked you who your favorite authors were right now, which authors would first pop out of your mouth? Are there any you’d add on a moment of further reflection?
Well I've already named some that would definitely "pop out," but a couple others come to mind now. Clare B. Dunkle, Lois Lowry, and Monica Furlong.

The Mutating Meme
Both Liv and Medeia Senka tagged me with this meme, which is kind of hard to answer since I was tagged by two--one mutated, one not. So I combined both their questions plus will add one of my own:

1.) If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
I kind of already did that (when I was six), although it was just altering the pronunciation from the Americanized one to the original from its place of origin. So I'm happy with my name.
2.) If you were writing a book, what would your lead character's name be?
If I were ever going to finish the book I started, the main character's name would be Vanessa. If I ever write anything else that might eventually be a novel, I'd have to think about it; I like for there to be hidden meanings in the names I give characters.
3.) What is your least favorite food?
Venison burgers, probably. Last time I was in the same house while they were being cooked I had to hide in my room to keep from gagging. I can't imagine eating one.
4.) Are there any songs that get stuck in your head really easily? How do you get them out?
Yes, there are! Usually ones that suck like most Christmas carols and a lot of oldies. Sometimes annoying classical pieces. I get them out by humming either a song I like (Breakaway, This One's for the Girls, Le nozze di Figaro and Il barbiere di Siviglia overtures, Dvořák's 8th or 9th symphonies), hopefully another one that will get stuck in my head. Or I just turn on the radio.
5.) If you could be (or are) a mythical creature, what would it be (or what are you)?
I would be a dragon! Flying and being able to breathe fire on people would be fun.
6.) What do colors taste like?
Crayons.
7.) Which Disney princess is your favorite?
Eew, Disney's animation?! None of them, thank you. They're all helpless little perfect-looking sticks.
8.) Name three (or more if you like) fawesome words.
Indefatigable, grackle, zephyr.
9.) What kind of toothpaste do you use?
Thom's of Maine, sometimes other brands if I'm going somewhere and only want a small tube.
10.) If you could chose one superpower, what would it be?
Mind reading, although it might be kind of scary sometimes.
11.) What do you usually eat for breakfast?
Cold cereal, but only if we have real milk. A lot of times the only options are soy, rice, or almond milk. I only like certain brands of those--the kinds that don't taste like a bean, old dish water, or like someone took water they'd soaked a Popsicle stick with no Popsicle on it in and gave it to me to drink.

Six (Not So) Random Things
Em tagged me with this meme:
1. I'm horrible at coming up with anything random. At all. It takes me about 10 minutes for some reason. That's why I enjoy being around random people so much, and why my answers for this meme probably won't be very exciting.
2. I have never read an anime but I have a deep dislike for them and never plan on reading one.
3. I'm only up to three things and am already nearing the end of my randomness.
4. I was in a "car accident" when I was four; There wasn't enough space inside the Little Tykes car for three little kids, so I rode on the roof. And since I "had a tickle" I had to let go to scratch it and fell head-first onto my friends' concrete patio. I have a flat spot on my forehead to this day (fortunately it can only be seen in certain lights), and it probably also permanently killed off some important brain cells.
5. I love bare feet, and if I can't have them, I like flip flops. Shoes are a last resort for when it's raining (I don't want to slip), freezing/snowing, or I'm going hiking or whatever.
6. I have never been in an airplane or outside of my own little time zone, but I want to go to England some day (and see everything in London and then go to Portsmouth and see the H.M.S. Victory), and also Ireland because I have a pen pal there, I would love to go to a real Céilidh, and just because.

Eva’s Reading Meme
Alyssa from The Shady Glade tagged me with Eva’s Meme:
Which book do you irrationally cringe away from reading, despite seeing only positive reviews? Honestly?
I don’t think there are any books out there that received only positive reviews, but there are some very popular books/series that I have no desire to read. Such as The Bartimaeus Trilogy, the Artemis Fowl series, and any anime/manga. There’s probably more but I can’t think of them at the moment.
If you could bring three characters to life for a social event (afternoon tea, a night of clubbing, perhaps a world cruise), who would they be and what would the event be?
Only three? Humph. Well, I’d be delighted to make the acquaintances of Nancy Kington (Pirates! by Celia Rees), Sarah Wheelock (Ann Rinaldi’s Girl in Blue), and Jacky Faber (the Bloody Jack Adventures by L.A. Meyer)—although if I knew the latter personally I suspect that I might find her rather tiresome. There are others, but as I am only allowed three....
As for the social event, what fun are those? Just give me a week or two with them and they could teach me to hunt, ride horses, sail, spy, and many other things. But a lovely picnic lunch each day could be included, too. :-)
(Borrowing shamelessly from the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde): you are told you can’t die until you read the most boring novel on the planet. While this immortality is great for awhile, eventually you realise it’s past time to die. Which book would you expect to get you a nice grave?
Honestly it would probably be The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and/or The Hobbit. I have tried SO many times to read those books and never gotten more than half a chapter into them. I don’t think it’s that the story is unappealing—the first movie was good—but as a friend put it, “You feel like you’re hacking through all this description to get to the actual story.”
Come on, we’ve all been there. Which book have you pretended, or at least hinted, that you’ve read, when in fact you’ve been nowhere near it?
I have to admit that I sort of pretend I’ve read Pride and Prejudice when indeed I have not. Although I have, in fact, been near it, only unable to get into it.

There are so many different types of people and so many books that each of them would enjoy that I don’t think I could answer this.

I don’t know. Maybe...French because there’s so much classic literature that was originally published en français.

I know that the book blogging community, and its various challenges, have pushed my reading borders. What’s one bookish thing you ‘discovered’ from book blogging (maybe a new genre, or author, or new appreciation for cover art—anything)?
Well I read pretty much any genre before blogging, so it can’t be discovering a new genre.... Nothing really comes to mind aside from books and maybe a few authors that I hadn’t heard of .

It would be dark and spooky and when you open the door a recording of “Enter. MWAhahahahaha!” plays. Just kidding. :-)
Although I don’t generally like dark wood much, you just have to have it in a library. So, you walk in the door to find tall mahogany shelves loaded with every novel I’ve ever read and liked. The walls, where you can see them for the bookshelves, are a soothing cream color dotted with sconces that produce warm light. The blue and stars-scattered ceiling soars high above your head, but not so much as to make you feel dwarfed.
The floor (also mahogany) is decorated with area rugs in a dark blue with oceanic designs. Chairs that you can sink deep into are placed in nooks between the shelves, but I would spend most of my time reading and dreaming on the comfy window seat of the large window overlooking green hills edged with trees.
Every book on the shelf a hardcover so new the spine cracks when you open it (I love the smell of them), and there’s a magical book-drop from which all of the new releases I’ve been waiting to read fall the second of their release!
