by L.M. Elliot
Annie Sinclair lived a life of peace and serenity until the beginning of the Civil War, when the Yankees invaded her southern homeland. Annie is frustrated that she must stay around the house and bandage men with horrible wounds instead of attending parties and balls like a young lady usually would. With her older brother Laurence fighting in the war, and a hot-headed Yankee-hating younger brother, Annie is her mother’s right-hand during the many trials they face throughout the war; it is she who uses her wit and courage to help her family and the way of life they believe in. When she meets the romantic, Shakespeare-quoting Captain Farley, Annie is swept off her feet, but is troubled by the handsome northern-born Thomas Walker who keeps popping into her life. Will her family and loved ones survive the war? And if they do, will they ever be the same again?
L.M. Elliot weaves Annie’s thoughts and feelings into the narration so seamlessly that I kept forgetting that it is written in third person—and that the characters weren’t real people.
Annie, Between the States is a wonderful historical novel set in Manassas Virginia and the surrounding areas that fans of Ann Rinaldi will love, and even people who aren’t history lovers might find interesting.

This is an excellent book. The writer really understood the time period and kept the book very interesting. This was a really great read.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, Between the States is a great historical fiction novel. Elliott puts clarity in the characters, and the book gives a phenomenonal mix of history and fiction.
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful Civil War-realted book. For school, each student must've picked a Civil War fiction book for a book report, and I was the one to have *luckily* chose Annie, Between the States, while my other peers chose just 100-page books. I just got the book from the library a week ago and have already made it to page 434 of 457. I am hoping to finish it tonight and ask that anyone should read it. L. M. Elliot produces a wonderful novel of love, loss, an true happiness. A splendid read that will get you engrossed in it from page 1. Please, PLEASE, read this totally awesome book!!!
ReplyDeleteMy aunt gave me "Annie,Between the States" for Christmas, and when I began to read it I became immediately immersed - I couldn't put it down!In addition to being a wonderful story, this book allows you to become involved with many aspects of the Civil War: from dashing colonals, and important militaristic maneuvers, to civilian life during and after the war.Best of all(and unlike some historical fiction) much of the book is based on actual happenings of the Day! I strongly advise you to read this amazing book.It will truely bring history to life!
ReplyDeleteI also read two of the other historical fiction books. L.M. Elliott is amazing! Go to the website: www.lmelliott.com
